Good afternoon, Following the positive reception to my last message providing an update on recent arrests, I thought it would be useful to share some additional insights that may be of interest. Since 1st June to date, individuals have been arrested in the Hammersmith Grove area for the following offences: Criminal damage (racially or religiously aggravated)Going equippedSexual assaultPublic order offencesThe Grove area has also recently experienced a number of thefts from motor vehicles. Residents I have spoken with are understandably concerned, so I wanted to share some practical crime prevention advice: General AdviceFit theft-resistant number plate fittings. Stolen plates are often used to disguise stolen vehicles—use one-way clutch head screws and adhesive where possible. When out and about, park in well-lit, overlooked areas, or ideally in a Park Mark approved car park with recognised security standards.Be aware that thieves use electronic key scanning devices. Always store keys in a signal-blocking (Faraday) pouch when not in use.Install locking wheel nuts to help prevent wheel and tyre theft. Cars and VansDo not leave items on display—remove or conceal items such as SatNavs, cables, tools, bags, coins, and sunglasses.Keep keys and ignition fobs secure and out of sight. Avoid leaving them in obvious places like hallways or near doors.Always lock your vehicle and close all windows, even when parked at home or briefly unattended.Fit an alarm or immobiliser if your vehicle does not already have one.Use a steering wheel lock or consider additional devices such as a gear stick lock. Some vehicles automatically fold mirrors when locked—if mirrors are still open, it may signal the vehicle is unlocked. Always double-check your vehicle is secure. Motorcycles and MopedsStore vehicles in a garage, shed, or secure bike store, preferably out of sight.Fit an alarm, immobiliser, and tracking device, and consider property marking.Secure the bike using a chain lock and ground anchor, and add a disc lock to the front wheel.Do not rely solely on the steering lock—it can be easily bypassed.Use a bike cover to reduce visibility and deter opportunist theft. For further crime prevention advice, please visit: https://www.met.police.uk/cp/crime-prevention/ |
